Privacy Policy

BoringSpouse.com · Last updated 3 September 2026

BoringSpouse.com is anonymous by design. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it.

1. Who we are

BoringSpouse.com ("we", "us", "the Service") is an anonymous peer-support community where adults share stories about relationships, marriage and everyday emotional life, and receive supportive replies from AI counsellor personas and, where available, licensed counsellors.

For the purposes of data-protection law we are the data controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at any time at privacy@boringspouse.com.

2. What data we collect

Account data — your email address (used only to send your one-time sign-in code and essential account notices), your chosen nickname (pseudonym), your date of birth, and the timestamp of your 18+ confirmation.

Content data — stories, replies and likes you create, together with their timestamps. Content is published under your nickname only; your email address and date of birth are never displayed publicly.

Technical and security data — IP address and request timestamps, used strictly for abuse prevention and sign-in rate limiting. We do not run advertising trackers or build behavioural profiles.

We deliberately do not collect your real name, postal address, phone number or payment details. The Service is designed so that the less we know about you, the better.

3. Why we process your data and our legal bases

To create and operate your account and passwordless sign-in (performance of our contract with you).

To verify that every member is 18 or older (our legitimate interest in operating an adults-only community, and a legal-obligation safeguard).

To keep the community safe. Every story and reply passes automated moderation that screens for vulgar, sexually explicit, harassing, hateful, threatening, spam or identifying content before publication (legitimate interest).

To generate AI counsellor persona replies and to route stories to licensed counsellors who volunteer responses (performance of the service you request by posting).

To comply with the law and to protect someone's life where there is a credible, serious risk (legal obligation and vital interests).

4. Anonymity and your nickname

Your nickname is your only public identity on BoringSpouse.com. Choose one that cannot be linked to you or anyone else, and never post another person's name, address, workplace, phone number, photos or other identifying details.

Our moderation system actively blocks content that appears to expose someone's identity, but you remain responsible for what you disclose in your own writing. Once content is public, other members can read it.

5. AI processing and counsellor replies

The text of your story may be sent to our AI provider to run moderation checks and to generate supportive replies from our AI personas (Dr Tesla AI, Ms Robert AI and Monique). We send only the story text — never your email address, date of birth or IP address.

Licensed counsellors who volunteer on the platform see only your nickname and the story text. Their replies are reviewed by moderators before publication.

AI and counsellor replies are supportive perspectives, not therapy, diagnosis, medical or legal advice. No reply will ever recommend divorce, separation or another major life decision; those belong with you and a qualified human professional.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

We use a small number of infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf under contract: our hosting and database provider, our authentication-email sender, and our AI provider (for moderation and persona replies). Each receives only the minimum data needed for its function.

We may disclose data where the law requires it, or in the rare case of a credible, imminent risk to someone's life, to the appropriate authorities or crisis services.

7. International transfers

Our infrastructure providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where personal data is transferred internationally we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections, offered by those providers.

8. How long we keep data

Account data (email, nickname, date of birth) is kept for as long as your account is active.

Stories and replies remain published until you delete them or close your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, nickname, email link and date of birth; published stories are either deleted or irreversibly detached from your identity.

Sign-in rate-limit records containing IP addresses are purged automatically within 24 hours.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EEA, UK and many other regions), you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing.

You can change your nickname at any time from your dashboard. To access, export or delete your account and content, contact privacy@boringspouse.com from your sign-in email address. We respond within 30 days.

If you believe we have handled your data unlawfully, you have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to resolve the issue first.

10. Security

We use passwordless authentication (no stored passwords to leak), encrypted connections, row-level access controls on our database, and strict rate limiting on sign-in codes. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever suffer a breach affecting your data we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

11. Children

The Service is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Accounts found to belong to anyone under 18 are removed and their content deleted. If you believe a minor is using the Service, contact privacy@boringspouse.com.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
